Playtesting on a Shoestring: Getting Real Feedback Without a Big Budget
Formal playtesting labs are out of reach for most small studios, but the core discipline of structured playtesting doesn't actually require one.
Why this matters now
A handful of strangers — not friends, not team members — playing your build while you silently observe still surfaces most of the confusion a lab session would catch.
What we're actually seeing
Studios that treat this as a one-time fix rather than an ongoing practice tend to see the gains fade within a quarter — the teams getting lasting results build it into their regular process.
Our recommendation
Prioritize testing with people who've never seen your game over testing with more people you already know — fresh eyes catch more than a bigger sample of familiar ones.

This is exactly the kind of breakdown I needed — saved for the next sprint planning.

Curious how this holds up on lower-end mobile hardware?
